Icknield Port Loop Growth Area in Birmingham (UK) 2009

One of the strategic city’s growth areas to the West of the city centre is to be transformed to Eco Neighbourhood called Ladyport. The 400ha area has a tremendous potential due to its ‘blue’ infrastructure – 28ha reservoir and 2 loops of canal system.

We – City Design Team – were appointed to create an Urban Design Vision for the area. By improving water, cycling, foot and rail infrastructure we made sure the living/education/employment/health and business areas are equally distributed around public transport access points and sensibly mixed to avoid monogamous developments. This urban vision will inform the Development Framework Guide to form the base guidelines for future developments.
